So you are a surfer? Recreational or competitive is not the question. The question is do you train like a surfer?

So many surfers that go to the gym and do the same old weights program that all the guys are doing.  Why would you spend time loading up movement patterns that are so rigid and look nothing like surfing. Surfing is all about maintaining stability while having the strength, mobility and flexibility to put your body in varying positions to ensure you stay on your board. This stays true at whatever level you are surfing at and the only thing that changes is the importance and focus you give to each area.

Surfing is so unique and there are so different variables that need to be considered dependent on what you are trying to achieve.

  • Flexibility/ mobility

  • Paddle power
  • Breath hold (Hypoxic)

Surfers all need the core elements listed above to perform while surfing, but the proportion depends on what your surfing goals are.
